What are probiotics?
What are probiotics?
Probiotics are live bacteria naturally found in the gut. These living microorganisms are also found outside of the body in certain fermented and cultured foods, and supplements. When it comes to gut health, probiotics promote healthy microflora that keep our bodies in balance.
Medical research shows our body is full of bacteria, both good and bad, and probiotics are often called ‘good’ or ‘helpful’ bacteria because they help keep the gut healthy.
How do probiotics work?
Probiotics work by entering the body through the food or drinks we consume. Research shows probiotic supplements are also a way to add good bacteria to your body. These good bacteria survive in the intestine after ingestion and make their way through the digestive tract to the gut. Here in the gut, they help promote a healthy microbiome (the microorganisms that work together to keep the body healthy). How? Probiotics help build colonies of good bacteria in our guts that help eliminate bad bacteria and keep a healthy balance in the body.
What is probiotic food?
Probiotics are found in naturally fermented foods such as good-quality yoghurt, kefir, tempeh, kimchi, pickles, sauerkraut, sourdough, miso, kombucha and some cheeses. However, you can also consume these live strains of healthy bacteria as a supplement. GanedenBC30 (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086) is a natural, hardy probiotic ingredient used to make probiotic-fortified foods and beverages, aka ‘functional foods’, and it is the key ingredient in our new Nerada Probiotic Infusion range. In multiple research papers, GanedenBC30 has been shown to support digestive health when consumed daily.
Why are probiotics important?
Probiotics play an important role in nurturing a healthy gut, which is widely regarded by experts as key to good digestive and immune health.
However, it is important to know that not all probiotics are the same. Unlike many other strains of probiotic, GanedenBC30 is highly resilient and stable, so it can survive traveling through the low-PH environment of the digestive tract. It also thrives under conditions such as intense heat, making it the perfect partner to create functional, fortified hot teas. This is why we have chosen to use GanedenBC30 to boost our Nerada Probiotic Infusion range.
