Rooibos & Vanilla

Loose leaf rooibos is cut longer than the bagged grade, and the needles hold vanilla differently: the sweetness comes through slowly and stays in the cup rather than arriving all at once. Vanilla has long been valued for rounding edges, and rooibos has few to begin with, so the two settle into something warm and dessert-like. Caffeine free, it can be poured well after dinner. The vanilla is blended through the long-cut needles rather than sprayed over them, so it survives a full five-minute steep and comes through under milk instead of disappearing into it.
