Poached Pears With a Black Tea Syrup

When the weather cools, we crave desserts that comfort, and our Warm Poached Pears in English Breakfast Tea Syrup delivers just that.

Infused with the bold, richness of Nerada English Breakfast Tea, this elegant winter warmer is gently sweet, delicately spiced, and surprisingly simple to make.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe but firm pears, peeled and halved
  • 3 Nerada English Breakfast Tea Bags
  • 3 cups water
  • ½ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil. Add the tea bags and steep for 5 minutes, then remove the bags.
  2. Stir in honey or maple syrup, a cinnamon stick, orange zest, and vanilla.
  3. Gently add the pears and simmer over low heat for 20–25 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender.
  4. Remove pears and continue simmering the liquid for another 10 minutes to thicken slightly.
  5. Serve the warm pears drizzled with the tea syrup. Optional: add Greek yoghurt, mascarpone, or ice cream.
