This popular tea was named after Charles Grey, the second Earl in his line, who was Prime Minister to King William IV in 1830. The recipe was said to have been given to the Earl by a Chinese governor who was a close friend. Earl Grey gets its delicate flavour from the oil of bergamot, a small citrus fruit.
